Cyclones get the best of Rebels in playoffs

Published Thursday, October 29, 2009

A matchup with St. Clair in the Section 2A volleyball playoffs had to have United South Central confident because the Rebels had beaten the Cyclones earlier in the season, but in the postseason St. Clair made up for the earlier loss with a 3-1 victory to end USC's season.

After a 25-22 loss in the first set, the sixth-seeded Rebels got a 25-21 victory, but the third-seeded Cyclones (20-8) won the next two sets 25-23, 25-19.

Kayla Stenzel helped keep USC (13-10) in the match with her 16 kills and Danielle Koestler added nine.

Marielle Schultz had 20 assists in the match and went 15 for 16 from the service line.

Carly Peterson added 18 digs and finished 20 for 22 serving.
