Northwood-Kensett’s Kate Hartman wasted no time in adding to her athletic legacy when she scored her 1,000th career point for the Vikings girls’ basketball team Friday against North Iowa in the first game of the season.

Hartman, who owns nearly every girls’ basketball record at Northwood-Kensett, became the school’s first girls’ basketball player to record 1,000 points. Hartman needed just 16 points to reach the mark and went on to finish with 27 points in a 43-42 victory over North Iowa in Northwood-Kensett.

The Vikings (1-0) led by as much as seven points in the first half and withstood a furious comeback from the Bison in the fourth quarter.

North Iowa (0-1) scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game late in the fourth quarter before Northwood-Kensett was able to hang on for the victory.
