Peek at the Past

Published Thursday, November 5, 2009

Here are highlights in history for Nov. 5, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1986 — Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad was in Lake Mills to help Larson Manufacturing Co. celebrate its 25th anniversary in this community.

1976 — The city of Albert Lea abandoned its “Give a Damn” slogan to promote citizen input into the community development fund for a tamer slogan of “Who Cares?”

1966 — The former Montgomery Ward store near the corner of Broadway Avenue and Main Street was being torn down so the property could be used for an expanded Standard Oil station.
